The Russian Geographical Society declares that venue registration for "Geographical Dictation 2024" is now open. The tenth education anniversary campaign is scheduled for November 16 and 17, 2024, both globally and even inside the International Space Station. Up to November 8th, applications for registration are accepted.
Any Russian or foreign organization, including national parks, libraries, universities, and schools, is eligible to register. Geographical Dictation will be available in two settings in 2024: in-person and remotely. The venue organizers have the option to perform the in-person format on November 16 or 17; the remote format is only accessible on November 16 from 12:00 to 13:00 local time. Every location that uses an in-person format will take part in the competition "The Best Venue of the Geographical Diction."
As is customary, there will be four variations of the Geographical Dictation, each divided into two sections. There will be ten questions in the first section covering fundamental geographic concepts. Thirty questions in the second section will test your ability to think logically, visually, and intellectually.
Assignments were created in collaboration with experts and a wide audience. Over 1269 riddles from authors in 18 nations were received as a record number of questions from the "Write your question for the Geographical Dictation" contest. This is the first time when 95% of the geographical quiz consists of questions written by amateur authors. Up until September 9th, the writers of the top questions submitted in the Russian Geographical Society partners' nominations will be revealed.
Since 2015, the Geographical Dictation has been held annually. The campaign's objective is not to evaluate geographic literacy. Raising interest in science and national heritage, together with raising the standard of geography education, are the goals.
Over 3,6 million people have taken the Geographical dictation throughout its history. The Russian Geographical Society's educational campaign gained international recognition in 2017. There are 129 nations that have joined the project in total over these years.
